Cali

Again I've been a little tardy in posting, but it's been a pretty busy couple of weeks. Since the last time I checked in I've had an awesome couple of weeks recovering up in the Adirondack's and my grandparents cabin in the woods. We were working on constructing a new dock, which was a lot of fun. I'll post up some pictures when it's all complete.

Last Saturday I decided it was time to return to California. It was a tough decision since my recovery has been going very well, and things have been pretty comfortable just hanging out in Upstate NY. However I am generally feeling pretty healthy, and am probably strong enough to get back to work part-time, plus I have been living out of a suitcase since before Christmas. My original oncologist had told me that I would be ready to go back to school by March 1st...boy was he wrong. However, my new doctor told me back in December that by Mother's Day I would be feeling good. He was pretty much right on.

It was a significant milestone heading back to Cali not only because I was away from friends and my regular "life" for so long, but mostly because I wasn't sure if I would make it back at all. So needless to say I was pretty happy to step off the plane healthy and happy. I definetely could not have gotten this far without the awesome support system I had. So I am grateful to all my family and friends who have stuck with me throughout this ridiculous journey.

The last week has been spent catching up with friends, paying bills (5+ months worth), and trying to get my life back into some form of organization. I've decided to spend the summer working in my lab, part-time at first, then as I get stronger, full-time. It's pretty laid back and I can put in the hours whenever I'm feeling well. The bills are starting to roll in so having some income is a good thing, and big load off my mind.

As of today I'm at day +87 (87 days after the transplant). I'm headed back to NY for a couple of weeks around day +100, and will be sure to blog about that trip since I'm anxious for some results!

Hi Jeff, my name is Lev, I work in NYS Civil Service and Michele is my supervisor.
Michele tells us a lot about your illness and your recovery. And I am in particular watching for your problem with big empathy and curiosity. My problem is that in May 2006 I found a node in my body. And in August 2006 docs diagnosed me with stage 1 of follicular lymphoma that is kind of non-Hochkings lymphomas. On September 2006 I got one month radiation treatment. After that in 3 months periods I did two catscans and they showed like I am on remission so far. Jeff I’d like to share with you some my knowledge. I read in Reader Digest a year ago a big scientific research article that vitamin D is very preventive for cancers, for different kind of cancers. So I believed to that article and during whole this time, after I done a treatment, I started to take every evening 1200 IU of vitamin D. Did it make any good for me against my cancer, I can only guess. I can not compare my health now after taking Vitamin D with me without it. But I can only credit it maybe on 50% in my mind for being on remission so far. In June issue Reader Digest reconfirmed again benefits of Vitamin D against cancer. I shall appreciate if you share with me some your knowledge and experience. Good luck to you.
Lev.
