"A smooth sea never made a skilled mariner"

This quote is hilarious, and I thought would be approriate given my sea-sickness.

Anyways, First off thanks to everyone for their phone calls, blogs, and emails, it's all good stuff!

The first treatment is now behind me and had it's share's of up's and down's, overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The worst part of the week was definetely Monday, I had a biopsy just above my heart, and a port placed on the right side of my chest. I don't remember it being quite as tough to take last time, but I was hurting pretty bad Monday afternoon. The anaesthesia was pretty rude and made me feel quite sick. Fortunately my pain was held in check by morphine, which was self regulated, meaning I could take more if I needed more. This made for a peaceful nights sleep, but also meant I wasn't a good host to Erik and Sarah who visited me that night, sorry guys.

Chemo started on Tuesday, and I got one dose of Etoposide. The good thing about being in the hospital is that they can stay on top of the side effects, so they did a good job of keeping the nausea to a minimum.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty much a blur. I got all three drugs Wednesday, and another Etoposide on Thursday, and lots of medication in between. I watched 6 movies, and slept through many more, which was okay. I also had some great visitors from all over Berkeley, labmates, and good friends to keep me company, play cards, and keep my spirits up. Overall the food wasn't that bad, but I was just happy to be able to eat most of the time.

I was released Friday and didn't do too much over the weekend, except watch some football, including seeing Cal get smoked by USC. My buddy Andy was in town Saturday though, so I rallied the strength to go out to dinner, and check out the new Will Ferrel movie, which was hilarious. Today I'm taking another sick day, and avoiding heading into school. I'm still feeling pretty crappy, and figure it's best to lay low.

Will keep the updates coming, much love,
Jeff
