This past weekend I had a wonderful trip back to NY. The main purpose of the trip was to be an IronFan at the Ironman competition up in Lake Placid, NY. Here 2500+ competitors attempt to swim 2.4miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles. My brother was one of the lucky participants, and we got a crew of family and friends together and prepped for a long day of cheering:

The atmosphere around this race is one which is tough to put into words, there is a energy in the air that is indescribeable. Not only do you have 2500+ world class athletes milling around, you also have their families, friends, camera's, big screen TV's, music, a famous annoucer, and a helicopter circling overhead. Mike was a bit nervous, but so were we!
He had a great swim, with picture perfect conditions:
His bike looked great, we saw him 38 and 94 miles into that particular leg, and looked phenominal each time through.

The run looked great, but tough and he finished without appearing to be in too much pain (though I'm sure it wasn't easy). He was out on the course for 16 hours! Imagine exercising that long!
He'll have a race report up soon here: http://ironmanusa2007.blogspot.com

On Monday Mike, Adam K., Dan A., Ryan D., Erik L. and I made the decision to sign up for the race for next year. It has always been a dream of mine to complete this race, and I'm pumped that so many other close friends have decided to race it as well. I figure I'm not getting any younger, so I mine as well make the commitment. The sign-up process involved arriving at the race site 2.5 hours before registration opened and camping out in line. Over 2000 entrants were in line, and the race sold out online in a matter of minutes. Keep in mind this race is 1 year away!

I'm looking forward to spending the rest of the summer and fall gaining my strength back, and hopefully beginning to train in January-February when my immune system will be back to a somewhat normal state. I'm really looking forward to next year!!
