After a decent 3 hour commute from Albany I arrived with my folks and got registered. This was followed by a good interview with Dr. Moskowitz, his fellow Alex, and the bone marrow transplant coordinator. We reviewed my history, and talked a bit about plans. However, he is very concerned with the infection I'm currently working on, and wants to push back any treatments until after everything has cleared up.
So immediate plans include about 300 hundred tests, including 2 CT scans and PET scan next Wednesday, followed by a bunch of other tests the following week, and another visit with the doctor to check on my infection, and concoct a plan. He told me to expect a 3 month commitment once things start, which is a bit longer than I was originally told, but approximately what I expected, since everything seems to take much longer than expected.
Overall I was impressed with the doctor, and his staff, they all seemed very competent, and most importantly, thorough. I was pretty concerned with the intensity of the transplant (and still am), as well as having the attention of the doctor (since he's a popular guy), but some of those fears were allayed today.
Otherwise things are going well, my trip back to NY was uneventful, and I'm looking forward to catching up with family and friends over Christmas.
Happy Holidays,
-Jeff
